Gulet Building
Gulet since the time of its most famous resident King (4th Century BC) Bodrum has been an
important local Gulet centre. King Ptolemy of Egypt had warships built here in the 3rd century BC in the
area now occupied by the present day marina. Many of the boats seen today are
modern versions of much older craft. With its symmetrically pointed bow- and stern and huge outboard
rudder aft, the tirhandil is a direct descendent of an ancient Aegean design and once the favourite of
area sponge divers. More recently, the boat of choice is the gulet, taken from the Italian gouletta,
ketch rigged with broad beam and rounded stern, and the aynakıç ,Gulet is ideal for private use or
chartering, her broad beam and spacious decks provide room for comfortable cabins below and
generous alfresco living above decks.
The Turkish “Gulet” is a traditionally designed wooden motor sailor. She has the heritage of those ancient boats which sailed across the Aegean and Mediterranean seas for thousands of years.
Seagull “Gulets” are built by craftsmen using local pine and mulberry while the superstructures are handcrafted teak, iroko or mahogany. They are powered by high output engines and fully functional ketch, schooner, guletta or gaff riggings. Most of our yachts have air conditioning in the cabins, not only for a comfortable night’s sleep but also for an enjoyable afternoon siesta. The air conditioning is powered by generators independent of the main engine. Briefly, our “Gulets” have modern facilities on board to provide our clients with all the necessary comforts.
The roomy hulls of our “Gulets” allow them to have plenty of space below and above decks and our guests enjoy a saloon and spacious cabins with en suite bathrooms. Above deck, one may relax under the shade of a large awning, comfortably eat outside around a good sized dining table or enjoy the Mediterranean sun on sun mattresses. The space and safety features of our “Gulets” have been giving some of our clients the chance to bring three generations of their families together during their holiday on Seagull yachts.
Our yachts are manned by a crew of four. One crew member is also the cook in charge of preparing delicious meals and helping with the shopping when needed. The serving and cleaning are done by other members of the crew. The captain is in charge and responsible for faultless service on board, to fulfil all special wishes of our guests.
